soleRebels

soleRebels is a sustainable shoe brand that upcycles local materials while empowering communities. Founded as a way to blend the Ethiopian community's creative artisanship and the traditional ‘barabasso’ (Ethiopian recycled tire) shoe, soleRebels is a unique footwear that is driven by ethical production, sustainable materials, and maximum comfort. Community is a critical core aspect of this brand which is why shoes are crafted by local artisans who are provided with full medical benefits and education funds for our employees and their families and offer wages 3 times the industry average (and no quotas!). The brand even provides transportation to and from work for disabled workers. Combining the recycled tire shoe, which prevents tires from ending up in landfills, with indigenous and other recycled materials, soleRebels shoes are continuously looking for ways to bring Ethiopia's history of sustainable practices to the world, preserving the rich history. Some sustainable materials used are organic cotton, recycled tires, indigenous, plant-based fibers (Abyssinian Jute and Koba), and sustainable leather from free-range animals. Production is done with hand-looms, meaning they are carbon-free. All shoes are shipped in hand-loomed chinsaks, saving fuel, water, and electricity.
